Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Recognition of prior Learning is the formal process for recognising skills and knowledge through the previous studies, work experience, skills, abilities and talents the person already achieved. Relevant Assessing body will be recognised the competencies of the applicant. Upon the assessing body for the relevant qualification you can obtain NVQ, AQF, NZQF or NQF levels.

This process is divided in to two main categories;

  • Recognition of Current Competency (RCC)
  • Credit Transfers (CT)

RCC process is generally focused on competencies in an area of study regardless of time, place and the way your learning occurred. Your competency from formal or informal learning, training or working experience or using your born talents and skills through a number of ways and part of or /and entire qualification stands through one or more ways. Under this process all your experience and qualifications are recognised.

CT process allows you to count your partly completed academic qualifications or any previous formal studies and trainings towards part of a degree or other qualification. This process reduces the number of academic modules/subjects you have to do to obtain your qualification. You can undertake those qualifications towards your new qualification. Almost all universities have pronounced national credit transferring guidelines for students. The amount of credit granting depends upon the level of achievement in a student’s composition of previous studies.

The Process of RPL

  • Get the verification evaluated for the correct Qualification

  • Submit the set of the documents as supporting evidence
  • Get in touch with the Assessor and pass all information
  • If special arrangements are required arrange those meetings and conversations
  • Assist the applicant if any further submissions are required
  • Coordinating with the Assessor and get their feedback about the prospects.
  • Discuss with the assessor if there are any changes, amendments, additions and extra evidence for the process.
  • Assist the document certifications and authorizations

  • Clear instructions regarding Supporting Evidence
  • Verifying the collection of sufficient evidence for the assessment
  • Check all necessary documents are correct and accurate for the assessment.
  • Finalise the document file formats for electronic mailing
  • Fialise the process and time duration for postal or courier services

  • Assisting with the submission
  • Confirming the postal, courier and mailings with the Assessing body.

  • If there are any requirements regarding the competency of the applicant on particular qualification or experience, assessing body will check the competency of the applicant.
  • Assist the applicant on relevant issue and coordinate with the Assessing body.
  • Preparing interviews or discussions with the Assessor.

  • If the applicant has any work or study gap, written statement, training or special practical test may be required.
  • In most trade related fields the applicant may be required to continue short training programs
  • The applicant should be knowledgeable about the possibility of gap training requirement at the beginning of the process
  • This step is optional for the applicants who have gaps in their work and/or study history.

  • If the Assessment is positive and offering correct evaluation the applicant has to follow necessary steps to issue the certificate.
  • In most cases total payments are required in this final step
  • Assessment charges are to be paid by the Applicant.
  • Verify the postal address for receiving original certificate
